Description
Once in every while there comes a horse that inspires a man to dream!
Such a horse was Fox Chena Bar 1987 Sorrel Stallion
Fox came into my life in 1987. I purchased him from the Dix Turnbow Ranch. Fox was very special to me from that moment onward. He had a presence, a grace and a style that I do not expect to see again in a horse that I might own in the future. He was cutting trained to compete at the highest levels in our sport in his early years by Tony Seamons. Fox later spent time in the very capable hands of Winston Hansma where he matured. He competed in the 1990 Futurity scoring a 218.5 in his first go under Tony. He was a Semi-Finalist in the 1991 Derby under Winston.
Then he came home to Quebec Canada.
To his very good fortune a very talented Canadian trainer, Brian Kelly of the Hellyer Farms, took a real personal interest in Fox. Brian spent many hours of his own time working with Fox, smoothing out Foxs rough edges. In my heart, I believe that Brian came to love this horse as did I, and truly appreciated that Fox was a one of a kind cutting horse. In 1992 Brian showed Fox in Area 21 to win the Open, the 5,000 Novice Horse and the 3,000 Novice Horse. He was the Quebec Champion in the same three classes and he won the 5,000 Novice Horse and the 3,000 Novice Horse in Ontario; he won the 5,000 Novice Horse at the Michigan State Fair. Fox poetically scored 75 five times in 1992 under AAA NCHA judges. In these local competitions Fox won over 22,200.00 in 1992. Both Brian and I believed in Fox and felt that he could compete in Texas against the best. We entered him in the Abilene Spectacular and Belton Chisholm Trail in January 1993. He did not let us down. Fox was a finalist in both shows, winning in excess of 9,000.00. He impressed all who watched him and he made both Brian and me very proud to show him. Foxs total winnings for his short show life were in excess of 23,500.00.
His was a story that was just beginning, when in February upon returning from Texas he became ill with a blood infection. At the young age of six Fox died March 3, 1993.
His passing has greatly saddened me. I came to truly admire and appreciate Fox.
I wish to thank those mentioned above for their assistance in making Fox a truly great Cutting Horse and a great ambassador for the Province of Quebec in the Cutting World.
Fox ! I wish you well in Cutting Heaven
